What does EMDRIA approved mean?

EMDRIA Approved EMDR Basic Training means this training meets the curriculum requirements established by EMDRIA (EMDR International Association) and has been reviewed and approved by the EMDRIA Standards and Training Committee. Julie Greene has been an EMDRIA approved Basic Trainer since 2005.

What are the minimum qualifications to participate in EMDR Basic Training?

In order to participate in EMDR training you must be a Licensed Mental Health Professional or working toward licensure and supervised by a Licensed Clinician. This means having a Master’s or Doctoral degree in the mental health field (Counseling, Marriage Family Therapy, Psychology, Psychotherapy, or Social Work), or being in the internship year of training in a Master’s or Doctoral degree program. Psychiatrists and psychiatric nurses also qualify for EMDR Basic Training.

What is the ten hours of EMDR consultation?

This consultation is required as part of EMDR Basic Training. Arrangements for this consultation with one of the Awake Mind affiliated consultants will be discussed at the Level I session, either meeting in person with a local consultant or using phone/video for group sessions. Cost for consultation is typically $300 for the whole 10 hours ($30/hr/person) in a group format.

Is there reading for EMDR Basic Training?

Required Reading for EMDR Basic Training is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing: Basic Principles, Protocols, and Procedures by Francine Shapiro (2001) The Guilford Press. Make sure to get the 2001 second edition. Read this book between Level I and II.

Recommended reading prior to Basic Training is Getting Past Your Past by Francine Shapiro (2012) Rodale. This book is written for laypeople and provides an excellent background on EMDR.

What is EMDR Certification?

Certification is different than completion of EMDR Basic Training. Many psychotherapists use EMDR in their clinical work without becoming certified. In order to say that you are “EMDR Certified”,  you complete additional training and practice requirements and submit an application to EMDRIA. For more information, please visit the EMDRIA website.
